Woodford Folk Festival Celebrates 25 Years With Fantastic Line Up

The Woodford Folk Festival is an event of international standing. Held over six days and six nights it presents more than 2000 performers and 400 events with concerts, dances, workshops, forums, street theatre, writers' panels, film festival, comedy sessions, acoustic jams, social dialogue and debate, an entire children's festival, art and craft workshops, late night cabarets and special events including a spectacular fire event.

This year the Queensland Folk Federation's festival organising commmittww at Woodford has announced a huge programme to mark their quarter century.

25 years on is a a bit scary for some of us who attended the festival (Maleney as it then was then)  during its first few years and numerous time since! Many happy memories of sloshing around in the mud  but with a pretty sophisticated village fayre type set-up it might get  bit muddy with rain out in the camping areas still but the venues are certainly weather proof.

If you've never been this is really the year to get along. With four little kids these days it is very child friendly too, although go prepared for some very hot weather if you have littlies.

International guests include:  Arrested Development, The Dynamites featuring Charlie Walker (above & video below) the Nashville funksters, Daara J Family, Dan Mangan and Passenger.

Not to be out done the local talent is superlative, You Am I, The Cat Empire, Tim Freedman, Jeff Lang,Basement Birds and Kate Miller-Heidke some of the most notable.

Comedy Festival at Cockatoo Island Sydney Cancelled - No Ones Laughing

For those as yet aware the Cockatoo Island comedy festival has been scrapped due to a lack of sponsors just 10 days out from its opening on October 16, 2010.

Billed as The World's Funniest Island, the event was to have featured Jane Turner and Gina Riley as suburban mother and daughter Kath And Kim as well as comedian Wil Anderson, the Umbilical Brothers and Michael Winslow from the Police Academy films.

In a statement on their website Australian Comedy Festival said:

"The world's funniest island will not be proceeding this year due to a drop off in sponsorship"

and that

"ticket holders will be refunded via their credit card within 14 business days"

The event was cancelled yesterday after organisers failed to secure a bail-out package from Events New South Wales, which was supporting it.

Ticket holders will be refunded within 14 business days.
The comedy festival began last year on Cockatoo Island, which was once a prison and shipyard.
